2007 Chevallee Cottage
Alan, Kathy and their teenaged son Mitch and daughter Cassie moved to France from Kent in England in 2001.
Being the proud owners of Chevallee Cottage which they renovated 5 years ago for holiday rentals, they have never been happier.
‘Life is so much slower and at a place that we all love'. 'We are fully booked every year, some years over 25 weeks are booked', says Alan.
'It is not like running a money making business as you feel you are always socialising and meeting all different people year in and year out. We have made very good friends that still keep in touch.’

Alan and Kathy work very hard to mantain their lovely little cottage and its gardens to a very high standard, but in their spare time Alan loves to chill out by doing the best thing he loves and that is painting.

Alan also collects old newspapers, Military, Western letters and old documents. 'Its like a museum in my house', states Kathy. 'If you want to know anything about history just ask Alan'.
Kathy by trade was a Telecom Engineer in charge of the South of England for many years. Her life now is totally different.
Retired? 'No, I am far too young for that', says Kathy.
Kathy not only looks after the upkeep of the family and her neat clean little cottage, she looks and cares for lots of friends holiday homes around her. 'Life is very hectic some weeks, I dont have time to breath'.
'The beauty of living here is that we have met some wonderfully true friends. Our social circle has grown and grown over the years. Our social life is crammed all year round with so many events that you lose count', says Alan. 'The kids moan that we are never in some weeks'. Cassie says:'Its like home alone'. .
Mitch and Cas love living in France and also have a huge circle of good friends. They have benefited by the French education system and are doing very well in their studies.
Alan, Kathy, hun zoon Mitch en dochter Cassie verhuisden in 2001 van het Engelse Kent naar Condé sur Vire in Normandië.
Als trotse eigenaars van Chevallee Cottage renoveerden zij 5 jaar geleden het pand en maakten het geschikt voor verhuur als vakantiewoning. ‘Ons leven is zoveel rustiger op deze plek, waar we allemaal van houden.’
‘We zijn elk jaar volgeboekt, soms meer dan 25 weken per seizoen’, zegt Alan.
‘Het voelt helemaal niet als het runnen van een zakelijk bedrijf, wanneer je jaar in, jaar uit nieuwe mensen ontmoet. We hebben veel vrienden gemaakt, die nog steeds contact houden.
Normandië bevalt iedereen, of je nu van geschiedenis houdt of een rustige, ontspannen vakantie wil houden.’
Alan en Kathy werken hard om hun schattige ‘cottage’ en de tuin in prima staat te houden.
In zijn vrije tijd ontspant Alan zich door te doen waar hij het meest van houdt: schilderen.

Daarnaast verzamelt Alan oude historische documenten, krantenknipsels en brieven.
‘Het is net een museum in mijn huis’, zegt Kathy. ‘Als u wat dan ook wil weten over de geschiedenis, vraag het Alan.’
In Kent was Kathy als medewerker van Telecom jarenlang verantwoordelijk voor het zuiden van Engeland. Nu is haar leven totaal veranderd.
Gepensioneerd? ‘O nee, daar ben ik nog veel te jong voor’, zegt ze.
Kathy zorgt er niet alleen voor dat hun eigen vakantiewoning tiptop in orde is, ze doet dat ook voor meerdere vakantiewoningen van haar vrienden in de omgeving. ‘Soms is het erg hectisch en heb ik geen tijd om te ademen.
Maar het mooie van hier wonen is dat we geweldige goede vrienden hebben ontmoet. Onze vriendenkring is elk jaar groter geworden en er zijn het hele jaar door zoveel leuke dingen te doen, dat we de tel kwijtraken. De kinderen klagen wel eens dat we soms wekenlang niet thuis zijn. Cassie zegt daarover: ‘Het is net als in de film Home Alone’.
Ook Mitch en Cas wonen graag in Frankrijk en hebben inmiddels veel goede vrienden.
